South Shields won the FA Vase at Wembley beating Cleethorpes Town 4-0 in an emphatic display. An estimated 13,000 South Shields fans made the trip to London to see the Mariners. South Shields went ahead in the first half after a spot kick from Carl Finningan. Dillion Morse added another in the second half and two late goals from David Foley finished the rout.

Went for the non league finals day which contained both the FA Vase and Trophy final. Left home at about 10:40 and got the bus to Tooting Broadway. Then got the northern line to Stockwell and changed on the Victoria line to Green Park. Then got the Jubilee line to Finchley Road and changed on the met line for one stop to Wembley Park. Walked up Wembley Way and got into the ground about 5 mins before the KO of the first game (FA Vase Final). South Shields dominated possession in the 1st half and had one or two chances to take the lead but were stopped by the Cleethorpes goalkeeper who had a very good game saving Cleethorpes from a heavier defeat. Cleethorpes did have a couple of chances on the break but didn''t really trouble South Shields apart from that. Dad and Joseph arrived about 30 mins into the game and about 5-10 mins after they arrived South Shields took the lead through a penalty and went into the break 1-0 up. 2nd half Cleethorpes had much more of the ball and could have easily got back into the game and it was 1-0 until about 15-20 mins left when South Shields doubled their lead through a set piece. Cleethorpes then fell apart and South Shields added two more to the scoreline mostly due to Cleethorpes starting to tire after giving everything in the first part of the 2nd half. South Shields deserved to win the game but it wasn''t a 4-0 defeat for Cleethorpes as they could have easily got back into the game. The 2nd match started about 2 hrs later and during this time we had lunch and I read the programme. The 2nd game (FA Trophy Final) had an incredibly entertaining 1st half with the 2nd half being played at a much slower rate. York took the lead on about 8 mins through Parkin which was agaisnt the run of play as Macclesfield seemed to have the majority of the ball. However, it was 1-1 within about 10 mins with Macclesfield scoring from the seconds of a corner. They then continued to dominate but were hit on the break by York who scored to make it 2-1 within about 5-10 mins. Macclesfield continued to press and managed to find an equalizer on the stroke of half time through a wonderful finish to send the game into HT at 2-2. The 2nd half was a slower affair with Macclesfield having the majority of the ball and not really doing much with it. The game looked to be going to extra time until York attacked on the break and they managed to find the winner with about 10 mins left. York were a very poor side and didn''t deserve to win the game but Macclesfield didn''t make the most of their dominance of the ball. We left the ground at about 18:30 and walked back to Wembley Park where we got the Jubilee line back to Waterloo and got the northern line back to Tooting Broadway and got home at about 19:45. Very enjoyable day and a great advert for non-league football.
