The hosts looked more threatening but the quality of football wasn''t great but eventually Bayer made the breakthrough on the half-hour when Yurchenko fired home a from distance giving De Sanctis no chance. Monaco''s goalkeeper found himself in a similar situation just after the break when Hakan Calhanoglu teed up Brandt who was slightly fortunate to see his shot take a deflection and loop over the Italian. But things were to get even worse for De Sanctis late on after Abdou Diallo brought down Robbie Kruse in the penalty area. Wendell''s spot-kick beat the goalkeeper but rebounded down off the underside of the crossbar technically Leverkusen''s fifth missed penalty in a row and went in off the helpless 39-year-old. There was still time left for Diallo and the arrogant Hernandez both to miss chances for their respective sides, neither of which would have made any difference to the result.
