Comments :
If Reading were to progress they had to either build new or rebuild Elm Park, which was outdated and too small. Nevertheless the atmosphere was good. The pitch of the roof seemed to have amegaphone effect, like a lot of older grounds, and the Reading fans were surprisingly lively. The match was tight but Reading had a player on loan, possibly Gilkes, who tipped the balance.
