Mixed bag of emotions for this one. Firstly with the links to the ex united players having also seen the tv prog last year I was a bit disappointed that the ground had been totally flattened and rebuilt. I think it''s nice to have a shiney new stand but to have all the character removed was disappointing. Former tranmere player maynard was captain and played the whole game but another former rover hogan didnt feature presumably injured as he had featured prominently this season. The thing is they have got a lot of things right. A number of cabins lined the rear of the home standing area the first of which housed the club merchandise and old programmes and the old gent running it was a superb example of all things good in football. I''d taken a recent copy of a tranmere prog and asked if he wanted to exchange for any old prog but I got far more than I gave up. The next half dozen containers held all the food and drink options which were plentiful. One was just for curry options one the regular pie and chips fair and another specialised in sausages of which I plumped for the balti topped with curry sauce and dried onions yum. The game was dominated by the weather, ten minutes of clear skies followed by ten minutes of blizzards and low cloud which alternated for the entire match with a biteing bitterly cold wind present all day. For the first hour the game was end to end Salford took an early lead with a corner headed home by piergianni only for spennymoor to equalise straight away with a wind assisted free kick punched into his own net by Salford keeper. They then took a 2-1 lead into the break after a strong run and finish. The first 5 minutes of the second half spennymoor looked very strong and should have added a third after the keeper had a rush of blood coming out of his box only to be rounded but the strikers touch was heavy and took him too wide. After this the weather deteriated and their were doughts as to whether the game would finish but Salford adapted to the conditions and dominated the last half hour with Tom walker scoring twice from close range the last after a spot of pinball in the box to send Salford back to the top of the league. At the end great credit was rightfully given to spennymoor from all quarters and it was pointed out but for the awful second half conditions playing their part the result could have been different.
