First train delayed by half an hour (at Whitchurch) but still made it. And the train from Preston to Kirkham and Wesham was more like an ancient tram. It even had a wooden ladder strapped inside for who knows what. A short drizzly walk to the stadium and I was there.
What a superb set-up for a non league club. The main stand is excellent and the sports bar beneath first class. A special mention too for the east side floodlights: gentle curves and beautiful.
The game wasn't great but a come-back win made it sweet enough. And - as nearly always - the player I'd picked out as not worth a shirt scored the winning goal. It really was the first (at last) thing of any value he did all day.
An easy journey home (despite the first leg being switched to a bus instead of a train) was welcome. Funniest moment being some little girls on the bus (probably around 6 years old) singing Frere Jaques and reveling in the line soggy semolina. Made me chuckle.
