On one of two coaches as most of the 1300 travelling fans made their own way to this derby game on Friday night. I had the choice in advance of the stand behind the goal 0r down one side up to the halfway line and chose the latter. A very wet pre match continued throughout the first half, sad news emerged after the game that a Chester fan had become ill in the buildup and passed away despite the best efforts of the paramedics. The game got of to the worst possible start for tranmere with a penalty award that was clearly outside the box, a slip by maynard led to him pulling up (and being replaced a few minutes later) when needing to clear and led to two other defenders stopping in the confusion allowing a Chester player to nip in and subsequently fouled on the edge of the box but the ref was to have a shocking game and started a long list of poor decisions by awarding the spot kick. Chester spent the rest of the half defending deep but took the lead into halftime. Substitute Harris equlised with a low drive from the edge of the box resulting in the first of two blue pyros being lit on the night. Chester regained the lead with a good header from a corner and whilst Tranmere dominated possession the usually solid defence made half a dozen bad mistakes which fortunately weren''t punished. Norwood restored parity with a header, another substitute (who was bizarrley booked when entering the pitch for rushing the fourth officials inspection of his studs). Late drama as firstly the third tranmere sub to score on the night Cook with a fine long range drive saw a mini pitch invasion which was out of order before the ref ended his wretched game by somehow finding seven minutes injury time! Still another excellent result.
