Early start and very cold. Car reading zero degrees when I left home at 07:30. And it didn't get above 7 degrees all day although it did get steadily wetter. I had horribly under-dressed (after last week's near sunstroke at Dover) and was cold and shivering all day.
All trains down on time and an easy 20 minutes walk to the ground which is tucked away on the edge of a housing estate. It's neat and tidy and probably about right for average attendances below a thousand. This crucial end of season match only attracted 701 !!! The playing surface was - once again for this league - absolutely amazing good quality. Like a putting green or better. And, today, the football on it was pretty good as well.
Two up within 15 minutes Borehamwood looked like they were going for a cricket score but a messy fluky (the ball hit both posts before being tapped in) by Guiseley rocked the home team. But the result was never in doubt and after a disallowed (for a very close off-side) goal they got the third and cruised home.
I was happy for the walk back to the station (now through steady heavy drizzle) and jumped an early train back to the relative warmth of Euston. Then a pleasant journey back to be greeted by sunshine at Crewe. Pah!!!
Anyway, another excellent day out.
