Missing five of the current National league north grounds I had a choice of three games today, the others being at Spennymoor and Alfreton. Seeing as it was a bank holiday I chose the closest to me to avoid as much traffic chaos as possible. The journey took around 90 minutes as I arrived shortly after 1pm with street parking outside the ground. I feel for former league teams that have gone by the wayside and feel I''ve missed out on some iconic grounds the likes of Bradford park avenue, Accrington''s peel park and Gateshead''s redheugh park, to be honest I liked park avenues 60''s progs with their ground pics and green covers and also the green kit. Today was one of mixed emotions, their current ground isn''t the best with the main stand being full of posts, you can stand around the perimeter but you have got a running track. The club shop takes you back in time which is great with a huge selection of old programmes and friendly staff, i''d bought a raffle ticket and I was hunted down at half time by a club official to check my numbers to see if i''d won(I hadn''t). Whilst i''d arrived early time passed quickly which meant I didn''t have time to queue for food although I gave it a go at halftime their was only one counter and after a fifteen minute wait I found out they''d sold out of most things including the pies and chips so I wasn''t the only one to traipse off empty handed, hungry and disappointed. One nice surprise was to find another ex Tranmere player playing for Boston in Johnny Margetts who had officially scored twice in ten appearance''s although I remember him scoring four or five against Vauxhall motors in a pre season friendly which triggered the chants of sign him up, unfortunately he never quite lived up to expectations and moved on. As for the game it wasn''t the best with an early penalty from Johnson for the home side proving the difference. Boston had lots of attacking pressure but with no end product with the home keeper relatively untroubled. Bradford had a few more chances but looked happy to sit on a one nil lead which took them second in the table with Boston in sixth place.
