Not the greatest game I have ever seen. A fine free kick goal to open the scoring on the stroke of half time, was followed by a penalty only a minute after the restart. Cambridge showed nothing at all, and while the scoreline seemed to suggest a one sided game, Port Vale only found some decent play midway through the second half, when it became obvious their opponents had nothing to offer. The home support was vocal and enthusiastic as you would expect it to be on the opening day of the season. The ground itself was nice, easy parking and friendly staff. Great open views of the pitch and a ground that really deserves a higher league of football.
