Needed a hat and still in September. On the way back needed oil-skins but more of that later. It was a 2.5 miles walk from Harrow and Wealdstone station but easy and pleasant enough. So many Indian people and weddings. There was even one going on in the social rooms at the ground meaning lots of very lovely women in spectacular clothes. But that wasn''t why I was there.
The ground itself is very plush (for non league). In fact, far far better than a lot of league grounds I''ve visited. Just a shame it was less than 15 percent full. But having seen the team play, I''m not surprised. They were ordinary to the point of poor. And the crowd around me were - without any doubt - the most ignorant I have ever experienced. Sometime this can be explained away as ''excessively partisan''. Not this lot. They were plain stupid. And having little or no knowledge or understanding of the rules didn''t stop them loudly foul-mouthing advice to the referee and anyone else within ear-shot.
It was cold too. And raining. So it was a blessed relief when the time came to leave (a couple of minutes before the end - train to catch). And the walk back was miserable. It was raining steadily the whole way which is probably why I missed the last critical turning and ended up adding an extra half mile. Then my train was a bit late and proceeded to go super slow, stopping at every station, meaning I arrived Euston with only 7 minutes to spare to catch my train home.
So, all in all, not the best day but good in parts and another one ticked off.
