This was quite an emotive game for me, having not missed a Tranmere home game in 18 years up until missing the pre season game against Rochdale whilst I was in Ireland this would be the first time I consciously missed a home game as a boycott against the inclusion of Premiership U21 teams in the check a trade trophy. It helped that the game against Man City U21''s was a dead rubber as having already lost our previous two games in the competition we couldn''t progress. As it stood the attendance of 747 set a new low home attendance record for a first team fixture (lost 0-1). Drove to Chester for this game which was delayed to 20.00 kick off due to traffic issues, was told it was pay on the turnstiles but requested to pay the £15 admission at the ticket window for an extra souviner. Sat in the main stand amongst some nice Chester supporters where I shared some of my football journeys. Ashton had Tranmere''s young keeper Pilling on loan as well as former rover matt Hill. From kick off they went on the attack but the shot was straight at the keeper shortly afterwards Chester took an early lead when a pullback in a crowded area found an unmarked striker. Aston were generally disappointing in the first half although they tried to play it around the back line they where shot shy at the other end trying to walk the ball home Chester scored again from a goalmouth scramble 2-0 ht. Second half Ashton had a lot more possession and played some good football but again with no end product. A neat turn and half volley provided the third before a deep cross was headed home at the far post. Ashton got a late consolation with a deflected shot hitting the bar before being scrambled home
