Train journey down with a change at Smethwick Galton Bridge (which really IS on a bridge) and then a near to 3 miles walk from the station to the ground. Good weather and flat walking through pleasant enough suburbs so not at all bad. the ground itself is small and a bit shabby but the club-house was good enough. I started chatting to three 'old boys' - all season ticket holders - and one of them got me a cut price ticket in. The club shop didn't have any scarves but, when I started pleading, one of the men in there offered to sell me one of his. Deal done. Inside the ground it's real old school and definitely lower league with a half dozen rows of seat here and there, a shed at each end and one slightly taller stand placed seemingly randomly off-set on the far side. The playing surface, though, looked excellent. Shame the football was generally so poor. That said, the match was exciting enough with Solihull coming back twice to level the score. With a long walk back to the station I left a few minutes before the end and my 'new best mates' from the clubhouse all shouted a jolly 'goodbye' and waved as I walked by. Coming back was via Birmingham Moor Street which is like a Victorian museum station - all red brick and iron work. I then had to walk to New Street station. Horror show. Tried to cut through The Bull Ring shopping centre and couldn't find my way out. What should have been a 6 minutes walk ended up being closer to 20. But I made it. Chuff-chuff back to Crewe and home by 20:00. Happy days !!!!
