Decided on an easy one to start the new season. Good idea as weather miserable: dark overcast blowing a gales with intermittent spitting rain. The ground didn't brighten the day up either. Its a low scruffy affair at set in a sprawling scruffy car park (wasteland) at the end of a none too smart trading estate. The inside wasn't much better (in fact not at all) and the sparse crowd weren't great either. Especially the obnoxious idiot sat behind me who thought he was funny (but wasn't!!!) and swore continuously every third word for the entire game. Now the match itself - not great but not that dreadful. The wind would have made it difficult for skilful players so this lot were really hampered. However, there was a lot of spirit on show and moments of skill. Chester were (I thought) really lucky to go ahead and then to finally win it. And overall I enjoyed it. But eventually the sweary-unfunny twat behind finally got the better of my patience and I left 5 minutes before the end. Quick walk back to the car and 55 minutes drive home. Another one ticked off and season underway.

A number of factors played in my decision not to go to Portsmouth with Tranmere, the bad weather forecast: the cost and to be honest my lack in faith that we could get any sort of result. With a bad knee I should have rested up but their was football out there and a new team in Farsley Celtic to watch. Despite the strong winds it wasn''t a bad game, Chester hit the bar and post in the first half but it was all square at the break but they took the lead shortly after the restart attacking the home end ex rover Waring found himself on the floor in the box but still managed to knock the ball wide where it was then drilled through the keeper and into the roof of the net. Waring added the second when a low cross across the box found him unmarked beyond the back post, one touch and it was fired low back into the opposite corner. The home keeper made one decent save from a free kick whilst Chester had two cheecky wind assisted efforts from the halfway line have the farsley keeper scrambling to save the ball finding the net. A late needless penalty proved only a consolation and Chester could have added a late third but blazed over an open goal.
