Less than 4 miles from home, I've walked and driven past it probably 50 times but tonight was my first visit. It was great.
The ground is really and far better than it looks from the road. A lovely club house too with excellent real ale at £3 a pint. And nice people too. The pitch is excellent and the concourse all neat and tidy.
Really good game too. Hard, fast and with occasional flashes of skill. Alport deservedly went ahead with a well worked corner routine (playing it deep and heading it back across goal for a header 'tap-in'. But second half Congleton were faster, more aggressive and easily the better team. They deservedly equalised but the last five minutes they were hanging on under relentless Alport pressure. So a fair result at the end.
Special mention for the ref. The best I've seen for a long time and certainly way above the standard usually seen at this level. Good job.
One small smile. The electronic scoreboard clock. It was deep into the first half when i cam to realise the clock was showing The Time i.e. BST. Nothing at all to do with the match time either elapsed or left. Explains why i thought the the first 19 minutes and 48 seconds passed so quickly and the 20 minutes and 5 seconds seemed to have lasted an age.
Anyway - I think I shall be visiting again before too long. A great night out.
