A wonderful day weatherwise: unseasonably warm (no hat or coat needed for travelling) and bright sunshine. Trains on time too. The first day out of the EU and the world is great ha ha.
An easy 10 minutes walk from station to ground, mostly alongside a picturesque river/lake/park and then - wow!! what aground. They say it cost 5 million quid and I can believe it. What a difference from last week''s ''old scout hut'' at Wealdstone. Sparkling, spotless, modern. And everybody seemed happy and friendly. The upstairs bar looks our across the pitch to the houses and park beyond. And downstairs is another outside bar behind the main stand.
By the time we kicked off I had to put a coat on (mostly against the now cold wind) and then a hat but gloves not needed. And the game itself (always a little different on a 3G artificial pitch) was warming too. Hard fought with flashes of class from both side but no real sign of a goal. So the final score was no real surprise.
By the end I was definitely chilled and a brisk walk back to the station was welcome. And once again the trains were on time and all went swimmingly. The final train from London to Crewe passed in no time thanks to chatting all the way with a 30 year old Pakistani guy from Preston (Hussein) who''d been in London all week helping his sister and brother in law with their first baby. He was heading home to get some sleep before going back to work on Monday. Nice guy.
So another really good day out. No great adventures this time but simple and straightforward can sometimes be just as nice - if not a whole lot better.
