Final game at a ground i have been attending since the 1969/1970 season,it was a sad emotional day,but we needed to move to a new stadium to progress as a viable football club. The attendance was 7702 and not 4998 which the system alters it to !!!

LAST EVER LEAGUE GAME AT SALTERGATE (SAT 08 MAY 2010) The old Saltergate ground last ever league match was an emotional day. The day started with a showing of old matches, and guest speakers at the Pomegranate Theatre (programme & ticket held) in Chesterfield. Following this a thousand strong supporter’s procession through the town and up the hill to Saltergate, balloons and flags in full show. On entering the ground a photo of myself and my cousin was taken at the old tern styles (photo held). Once inside stood on the kop a good look at the ground gave understanding why the move to the B2net was needed. Afew phone photos later the ground was bursting at near full capacity. The opposite away end held more sperities and the small number of promoted Bournemouth fans sat in the far side stand. Chesterfield 0-1 down in the second before Jack Leater turns in the box and smashes the ball home, and in the 90 +3 minute a winner from scotsman Derek Niven. The ground run on the pitch delighted with the last goal at Saltergate. The crowd are cleared off the pitch. The game continues for a couple of minutes before the final whistle followed by jubalent scenes with the fans running back onto the pitch to congress around the directors box in the main stand. We stood around listening to the players and then director talk about Saltergate and the final goal scored. Barry Hubbard the CFC chairman promises promotion next season. A last look around the old girl before leaving the ground. A happy and sad day in reflection a ground I have loved visiting for over 15 years full of character and fun memories.
