Newcastle really ought and would deserve to win something again. The fans are not just the narrow-minded, my club and nothing else brigade. Scores of them turned up at the Turf for the Orient game and you can always talk football.
This was my only match at Newcastle. Nowadays it is difficult to get a ticket. Newcastle won easily against a Burnley side involved in the League Cup. At this stage it seemed a good thing but a run in the FA Cup as well proved fatal. Semi-final of League Cup, quarter-final of FA Cup and relegation. It was to be eighteen years before a return to Div 2.
