Left home at about 17:30 and got the bus to Tooting Broadway. Got the tube up to Wembley Park changing at Stockwell and Green Park. Got up Wembley Way quite easily but it was an absolute nightmare once through the ticket activation barrier. Queued up outside my turnstile for ages before being told it was closed as too many people were trying to get through without tickets. Ended up getting through another turnstile but someone tried to tail behind me to get in. Thankfully he was stopped by security. Felt very uncomfortable and ''unsafe'' around the ground. Eventually got to my seat about 30 mins before KO. The atmosphere within the ground was unreal and one that I will never forget and England got off to the perfect start through Luke Shaw after the ball was floated in by Trippier to the back post where Shaw smashed it in. The first half was a very good one for England with a number of standout performances from Rice and Phillips in midfield. Italy came out in the second half the better side and we ended up giving them too much time on the ball. They managed to create a number of chances and eventually broke through around 67 minutes through a scruffy goal from a corner. The game somewhat petered out into extra time which went by without too much goal mouth action but with England having most of the ball. Of course, with penalties comes heartbreak and with England having gone ahead in the shootout: Rashford, Sancho and Saka all missed penalties which meant the Italians were champions. Left the ground about 5 mins after FT and walked down to Wembley Park. Given that it was a Sunday there was a train about every 15 mins so there was large numbers of people waiting for trains to get them into London. Got the metropolitan line to Baker Street and then the Bakerloo down to Elephant and Castle. There were no northern line trains once I got to Elephant so I had to get the 333 bus all the way home eventually getting back at 01:15.
