Ended up driving to the game solo. Managed to get parked ten minutes walk away despite talk of the parking issues. The days attendance was a new record for the ground in an entertaining game. Confusion runs rife at the ground as i''d hoped to secure a card ticket in advance but was told if i wanted that i would have to buy at the ground on the day or have to settle for a crappy print at home ticket. The fun continued at the ground as i tried to buy a programme at the shop only to be told they were only sold inside the ground however once inside the west stand (admittedly one of the first) i found they weren''t. Eventually a guy turned up selling them outside the turnstiles and i had to plead with a steward to purchase one. The ticket bought outside the west stand cost £20 but showed as a comp, when i queried it i was told it was because they had so many different ticket prices? I also asked for a ticket near the halfway line preferably above a tunnel. It sounded like i would be close but was told i could always move after kick off but i was left frustrated as my ticket was inline with the 18yard box and the stewards inside were adamant their would be no moving sitting in the allocated seat was the only option. To be fair whilst i had been outside i heard a lady inside barking instructions to the staff in what sounded like an unpleasant manner.
As for the game York started brightly but Southport soon picked up in an even first half. The hosts took the lead from a corner headed home but almost immediately port were level from the spot(Hmami) after a soft penalty, a slight nudge from what i thought was an offside position. A point blank save right on half time from the York stopper sent the teams in level. Second half the hosts had more possession but both sides created chances. A carbon copy header from another corner restored the hosts advantage and a third poked home after a scramble in the box sealed the deal although two goals difference was slightly flattering. Not sure if their was a chap with some form of turrets in the stand but the noises were unusual. Brown, Wright and Dyson the home scorers. Called in at Tadcasters ground on the way home for a look around.
