The National Dock Labour Board Newlands Cup was generally entered by about 35 teams from 21 ports around Britain. The two semi-finals were always held in Manchester on the Manchester Ship Canal Sports Ground on the third Saturday in March. Football League officials from Manchester were appointed to the games if they were available. The final was held in New Eltham, London. I was a linesman for this match.
