Early kick off allowed for back to back games. A minutes silence for the 26 year old women shot on Christmas eve in a Wallasey pub preceded the game. Disappointingly Lairds chose not to do a physical programme and with Ashville producing a polished if basic programme when at home helped in my decision as who to support and who to choose for watch if push came to shove. Lairds started brighter with a few decent corners but Ashville thought they had taken the lead, the keeper got a hand to the ball as the striker tried to round him the loose ball was fired home but the flag had long since been raised. Shortly after they hit the bar from a freekick the first of three hitting the woodwork for them whilst Lairds obliged once. Just before the break the visitors were reduced to ten men. A wild two footed lunge on an Ashville player luckily just failed to make contact advantage was allowed but handbags followed off the ball and whilst i didn''t see anything too bad the Ashville saw red presumably for violent conduct. HT 0-0. Second half despite being a man down the visitors took the lead with a well placed header from a left wing cross and threatened to increase there lead with a fine solo run between three defenders with a shot hitting the left post and another decent shot that hit the bar and possibly bounced over the line and out but not given. The last 15 minutes saw lots of attacking pressure from Lairds but no end product, a back post header onto the post and one cleared of the line nearly salvaged a point but Ashville held on for a deserved 3points.
