Back on the hunt (fore the 164) after a lean few years. Train from Wrenbury to Walsall. With a 2.6 miles walk and heavy rain forecast was a bit concerned but ended up not feeling a drop and sweating like a Kingsley all the way. Got a little bit lost but nothing major. What a lovely club. Neat little ground (3G artificial) with a clubhouse more reminiscent of a 1950's bowling club. Everybody friendly and pleasant in the July sunshine making it the sort of club one could imagine being a regular at if living close by. Ground a little strange in that the only proper stand seats were right at one end (both sides) with virtually nothing anywhere else. But signs of lots of work going on so maybe a sign of recent promotion to this level. Game excellent (doubly so for a first pre-season fixture) with both sides looking fit and prepared and no holding back into the tackles. Very impressive indeed. And the mid first half torrential rain shower seemed to speed things up even more. Second goal was an absolute stunner !!! With trains again playing up I opted to leave before the end and catch and early. Got more than a bit lost on the way back to Walsall station but still arrived in time for the train before the one I'd been aiming for. And it arrived Rugeley Trent Valley just as a delayed Crewe train arrived at the next platform. So I skipped across and made Crewe almost 2 hours ahead of my Wrenbury train. So a mewing call to Suey who came and picked me up from Crewe just as the heavens opened. A very pleasant day out to a very nice place.
