Spur of the moment decision to go. Only an hour''s drive and weather cold but dry so set off. Easy to find the ground and street parking a short walk away. Scruffy little ground with a mish-mash of small stands and open standing areas. Nice clubhouse though and a good crowd considering the deteriorating weather. But the football was awful, dire, the worst I''ve seen for a long time. Low skill levels and poor control leading to a muddy brutal equivalent of tennis.
Half way through the first half the sky darkened and it started to pour with thin icy rain. And the football deteriorated still further. By half time I was cold, wet and pretty fed up. Stayed for the second half but gave up before the end with Warrington (WTFC - what the f*** club) losing. In they end they somehow fought back to draw 2-2 with an injury time equaliser. I was long gone by then. Drove home with the heater full blast all the way and was still cold when I got in.
Lit a roaring fire, grabbed a beer and watched possibly the best game of footy witness in the last 5 years as Man City scored a a brilliant injury time winner to beat Newcastle 3-2. So completed the day having been at opposite ends of the football quality spectrum. I won''t be going back to Warrington anytime soon.
