After a good night''s sleep in Chiswick it was an early Uber down to Wimbledon for a hospo breakfast and drinkies before a 12:30 kick off. On the way into the lounge there was a security guy holding The FA Cup and it was easy peasy to persuade him to let Charlie and me take turns holding it and snapping pics. brilliant start to the outing. In the lounge breakfast was superb as was the first Guinness an the subsequent bottle of Malbec. And on a table of 10 people there was plenty of chat - especially the little bloke who was a young boy in a Mickey Mouse T-shirt appearing briefly in the Justin Fashenau documentary ha ha. In amongst it all I got a pic with Haydon the Womble mascot and then (as if the day couldn''t get any better!!) in comes Dave Beasant (Crazy Gang FA Cup winning captain and goalkeeper) so yet another pic and an autograph. What a nice (huge) man. The stadium is diddy but really well thought out, planned and executed. And everybody there was so friendly and hospitable. Plus the Wimbledon Ultras made one hell of a noise and had a repertoire of songs that put come of the bigger team crowds to shame. The football was good too with both sides showing great commitment and no little skill. Unfortunately the higher league team always looked like winning and eventually - inevitably - did. A short return to the lounge then a twenty minutes easy walk to our first station before heading to Euston for early dinner and on to Crewe (in a virtually empty train) and back home by eight. Another excellent day that coupled with last night at Brentford made this a double-header that was right up there with the best of them. And Charlie paid for just about all of it !!! My birthday treat. Aaaahhh.
