Ground was easy to find. It is a traditional ground with plenty of character. Even though it was mid-winter with serious bad weather warnings on the media, Pompey brought nearly 2,000 fans with them. Good atmosphere in the ground and double the average crowd. Friendly stewards, excellent fanzone with several food outlets and bars. There must have been nearly 1,000 fans in it 45 mins before kick-off. Programme cost £2, and was one sheet of paper folded a few times. But it was good. So few clubs sell a printed matchday programme these days.
It was bottom v top, but the hosts were defending well, so 0-0 at HT. Carlisle worked hard and were committed in the tackle but there was little flair in their line-up. Only number 7, Gibson, played with his head up and looked to try a few things.
Pompey looked the better side without creating many clear chances. Left sided attacker Peart-Harris (on loan from Brentford) looked like he thought it was below him to play in such a fixture, and was rightly the first player subbed off. His replacement Kamara made an instant impact showing composure, good control and an appetite for taking defenders on. On 62mins he picked out a special through ball to Lane who didn''t even have to break stride to take one touch and slide it past the keeper. 1-0 to Pompey, which became the final score, a vital 3 points for Porstmouth.
Man of the Match: Kamara, followed by Lowery, Raggett and Shaugnessy.
