Penultimate evening of a most glorious fortnight's holiday in Cornwall and here I was parking up in the Truro Park & Ride on a pleasant late September as the sky grew dark and the temperature plummeted. A short walk into the sport hub ground and the most southerly team (of any standing) was already out warming up. The ground space feels huge at this level and the stands many and varied but, being only a year or so old, it was all clean, neat and tidy and well thought out with a large tent for a club house and a genuine barbecue running. The people I sat with were long-suffering Truro fans who finally felt they were getting somewhere football wise (and of course regards financial stability) and it was nice to feel the positivity. This despite being one off bottom of the league. The fact they are still around and now look set for a rosy future was the most important thing. That said, they will need a small miracle to avoid relegation this season. The team are full of endeavour but largely devoid of the necessary skill. And they didn't look organised to my eye. So a rousing first quarter of sweeping attacks was quickly snuffed by letting in 2 goals in 5 minutes and that was pretty much that. Being uncertain whether I'd find my way back to Sue (waiting in our cabin at Chycara) had me leaving before the final whistle. And I did get lost. Just lucky I spotted a turning I'd seen before and got back. But another one ticked off and I will be looking out for Truro City and their really nice fans.
