Impressive stadium, though from the outside it looks like an airport terminal. Fan park was lamentably sparse re food and drink outlets, as were the areas behind the stands. Interior does look like a football ground however. Nice touch to periodically, electronically, show the facings of the front of the upper sections in the Archibald Leach style like a couple of stands at Goodison Park. Liked the high rake of the seating. I went with a friend who supports Crystal Palace, so I was in with the away fans who sang throughout. The home fans were very quiet until the ref gave them an undeserved penalty in the 73rd minute. Defender is stretching towards the ball, attacker makes no attempt to go for the ball, he deliberately runs into the prone defender instead! Ref is conned and gives a pen. When will refs ever get wise to this ploy.
Up to that point Everton had been outclassed by an excellent Palace side who should by then have been at least 3-0 ahead. To rub salt in the wound, in the 93rd minute, a Palace clearance hits Grealish on the shin and finds the net. The most iniquitous result you could imagine. Palace did fade in the last 20 minutes, possibly affected by their Thursday European tie in eastern Europe. Everton were dire in the 1st half but improved a bit in the 2nd. They look like relegation fodder to me.
Parked my car near Blundellsands station and took the metro/train to Sandhills, a 15 minute ride followed by a 15 minute walk to the ground.
