A total contrast to the appaling County Ground. A friend in Ireland who is involved withtrying to find a new home for Shamrock Rovers asked me about various grounds. I recommended him to look at Sixfields. One decent-sized main stand acts as a focus, and the three other smaller stands could be enlarged one at a time if greater capacity were needed. Parking is also excellent and access good.   At this match a Town fan told me that before the first match a hole appeared in the goalmouth and kick-off was delayed whilst it was filled in. Isn't tradition wonderful?

Went along with a Torquay United supporting friend of mine on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon. This was in the days before I'd ever heard of doing the 92 ... let alone ever thought of doing the 92, and the game was a bit of a scrappy affair so a bit difficult to get excited about it. The one thing that dominates my memory of Sixfields Stadium is breeze blocks: they were everywhere you looked - no paint or plaster to cover up the dullness of the place. Credit to the travelling Torquay supporters who did their best to liven up the place even though their were having a bit of an off day (to put it mildly). As well as being my first introduction into the world of lower league football this was also my first encounter with Bovril and how this strange concoction seems to be synonymous with football in windswept grounds on cold Saturday afternoons. From a spectator's point of view the ground was easily accessible by car, close to the motorway and with plenty of parking available.
