FA CUP FOURTH QUALIFYING ROUND REPLAY
BLUES PROPOSED CELEBRATION PLANS FALL VERY FLAT!
METROPOLITAN POLICE 0 HENDON 2
The Blues put together a lack lustre performance with a team amazingly still with an unbeaten league record and a more or less fully fit side. It should have been so different had they taken their chances they created. Straight from the kick off they ran at the Hendon defence leaving them back peddling. James Field sent over a long cross but Vernon Francis was only able to head the ball into the hands of the Hendon''s goal keeper. Minutes later striker Craig Watkins tore through the visitors'' defence crossing the ball to Tyron Smith whose shot from 6 yards out just missed the target. It did not get any better when Captain Nicky Humphrey''s header from a long free kick also missed the target. They were to prove very costly misses. Hendon weathered the early storm and on 27 minutes striker Belan Aite-Oukrin broke free with a through ball and drove the ball into the net for the opening goal. Six minutes later the tie was as good as over. A mistake by the Blues defence inside their own area gave Casey Maclaren the easiest of chances to hit the ball into an empty net to make it two nil up.
The second half found the Blues on the attack as Hendon were quite happy to defend. There appeared to be no atmosphere in the ground. The chances came again but were not taken. A Craig Brown brilliant run down the right flank and an inch perfect cross deserved better. Craig Watkins alas was a split second late in connecting and the ball was deflected around the near post for a corner. It got worse. James Field finally found the target but Berkley Laurencin the Hendon goal keeper made a great diving save. Craig Brown tried his luck again with another great run and perfect cross only for Gary Drewett somehow from only 6 yards out to miss kick the ball wide of the goal. It was one of those best forgotten days. Hendon came back in the last 20 minutes. Casey Maclaren testing Mo Maan in the Blues goal with a deceptive 30 yard shot which Maan only just managed to tip over the bar. To add to their sorrows the Blues had Tyron Smith sent off for a second yellow card with just five minutes left. Not a good day for the Blues, so near yet so far. Mr.T.
TEAM: Maan, Taylor, Bourne, Humphrey, Noakes, Drewett, Brown, Smith T. Watkins, Francis, Field.
SUBS USED: Smith E. Lampton, Simpson.
