Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo (Brz), Cambiasso, Raul, Casillas, Roberto Carlos etc v. Cafu, Totti, Cassano, Emerson, Panucci, Samuel and Delvecchio etc. Man of the Match was Makelele! Totti got the goal. This is the best stadium I have ever been to, and I am writing this amendment in 2022. It rakes up quite steeply so it seems no-one is very far from the action. Also, the bowl retains the spectators sounds very well. My American friend in Madrid got the tickets. I had told him I didn''t mind how much they cost or where they were in the ground. Got there to find that the seats were just in front of the Directors'' Box, so we had both teams line up right in front of us before kick-off. Brilliant view. Each ticket cost £30 !!! Incredible value. Stadium so well served by public transport, metro station beside the ground, train got us back to my friend''s appartment 25 minutes after the final whistle. Amazing. On checking the stats today I see that the Roma bench that day included Gabriel Batistuta and Pep Guardiola. The Real bench included Fernando Morientes and Guti. Real were the defending Champions League Champions and a month later won their Club World Champions Final against Olimpia in Yokohama. Real went on to win this group on goal difference from Roma. However they were knocked out in the semi-final by Juventus. That same season this Real side became La Liga Champions. This did not stop coach Vicente del Bosque from getting the sack a few days later.
