A see-saw game on a sticky pitch. It cost me Ł32 for a ticket(!) and at half time I really felt I had been ripped off. Preston scored after 39 seconds, the second time in 10 days I have seen Watford concede within a minute. Leon Clarke (QPR loanee) finished off a Keith Treacy (who impressed me) cross to make it 0-2 just before the break. Vicarage Road lacked passion and atmosphere. It was quite amusing/annoying to see the Hornet mascot beating a drum and trying to rouse the fans, then shaking his head despondently at their lack of response. Talking of Watford mascots.....why are they called the Hornets, yet have a Moose head on their official club crest?! Watford came out a more determined and more urgent side in the second half. Two young subs got their goals, Matt Whichelow (pacy and quick footed) and Adam Thompson (full N.Ireland international before his debut, 18 years old, still physically weak but comitted). It was great to see Thompson so pleased with himself at scoring in only his second game for the first team. Sub Jamie Proctor for Preston impressed me but after a dazzling start, he seemed to become frustrated quickly and his head dropped. A real pity that Darel Russell''s blistering effort that hit the top corner of the goal frame had not gone in. Worthy of a match winning effort that. Chatted in the Watford hospital car park to Deana on the phone. Tried to work out our differences. Achieved calmness if nothing else. She''s moving on!
