Comments :
Peruvian Primera Division match attended whilst travelling in Peru. Having had my travel schedule altered by being a victim of an armed carjacking I was left in Arequipa Peru for an extra day. Found out that the home team FBC Melgar had a match so had a word with my tour guide about going. The tour guide was keen to go and we managed to talk a couple of others from our tour group to go as well. Took a cab to the ground about 15 minutes away and purchased tickets from a lady outside the ground for 22 solis each about 4quid! Walked up to the ground which was pretty large and impressive. According to my tour guide it holds up to 65,000 although capacity according to wikipedia is 42,000. Anyway got in and it was a tidy neat large ground, there wasn´t that many inside but still the atmosphere was great especially in the 2nd half. There were alot of flags and sections for the home últras´that were cordoned off by large numbers of riot police with weapons and shields. The match itself was brilliant. Strangely in the main stand it wasn´t segregated so was a mix of both sets of fans but no problems at all. Melgar scored in the first half a cracking goal after a great cross from their big centre forward. They had probably 4 oter great chances in the first half and probably should of gone in much further ahead. In the 2nd half the visitors Cobresol FBC played really well and equalised and then went on to score what proved to be the winning goal after a scramble in the box. They probably deserved the win after the 2nd half performance. There was an away fan a girl of around 30 behind me a few rows back and she was chanting loud the whole match, talk about passion for your team I´m surprised if she could still talk after the match. All in all a fantastic experience and thoroughly enjoyed it after a difficult couple of days.
