A gloriously sunny day in May meant that rather than stay at home all day I made a last minute decision to take in the Baggies last home game of the season. I didn''t realise though that Stoke City v Crystal Palace was a 12:30 kick off and that should the Potters win West Brom would already be relegated before they kicked off at 3:00. I could well have just wasted £36. Personally I think that in the last 2 weeks of the season, unless it''s totally impossible, all games should kick off at the same time to avoid this sort of situation. Still, I''m just a fan so my opinion doesn''t really matter to the Premier League, Sky, BT etc. My fears were increased on the drive up to the Hawthorns when Shaqiri scored for Stoke from a free kick just before half time. After parking and collecting my ticket I headed towards the FanZone which was full of replica shirted Baggies fans anxiously watching the big screen, which was showing the match. It was looking grim until McArthur scored the equaliser on 68 minutes. A slightly underwhelming cheer went up and the game looked to be heading for a draw. On 86 minutes though a dreadful backpass from Ryan Shawcross let in the Eagles Van Aanholt who struck the ball past Stoke keeper Hennessey. A massive roar went up in the Zone. Palace held on to win 2-1 and ultimately send Stoke down into the Championship. Everyone knew that that Palace win gave the Baggies a chance and that the game we were about to watch was not going to be just a dead rubber.
