Berwick Rangers: Currie pen 89 Y Bejaoui, D Jacobs, D Hoskins, C Townsley, D Brydon, L Currie, S Notman, N Janczyk (S Noble 67), D Lavery (J Ferguson 25), F McLaren, K McDonald (D Gielty 81) Wick Academy: M Gray, M Steven, G Manson, A Farquhar, G Steven, C Shearer, S MacKay, S Cunningham (J Pickles 80), G Weir (L Geruzel 67), R McAdie, D Allan It was a tale of two penalties at Shielfield Park as Berwick Rangers booked their place in the third round of the Scottish Cup thanks to a last-minute spot-kick against Wick Academy. In a game which had 0-0 written all over it, Berwick created more chances but were far from impressive in the target area. Wick, on the other hand, were strong in defence and quick on the break but quite literally paid the penalty for a lack of punch upfront. The visitors missed a great chance to take the lead after only seven minutes when Dougie Brydon was judged to have brought down David Allan in the box but Wick captain Sam MacKay’s spot-kick was superbly saved by Youssef Bejaoui. Home appeals for a penalty went unheeded when Kevin McDonald appeared to be impeded before Fraser McLaren saw a great shot blocked by Michael Gray. Rangers continued to apply pressure and substitute John Ferguson saw a close-range header rebound off the bar, before Steven Notman headed over under pressure. After the break, McDonald saw an effort fisted clear before both McLaren and Currie fired over when well-placed and Dean Hoskins was inches off target with a fine header. Wick had a spell of sustained pressure late in the half before Rangers finally broke the deadlock in the final minute. Substitute Stuart Noble raced into the box but was being held back by Grant Steven and the referee pointed to the spot when the Berwick frontman finally tumbled. Lee Currie stepped up and denied the Highlanders a replay when his spot-kick hit the back of the net
