Newport''s team was effectively their first team. But of all the Aston Villa players, I did not recognise one who has played in a first-team match for them despite manager Paul Lambert''s pledge to send a squad to Newport that contained some first-team experience. Perhaps this was understandable as Villa''s first team played at Crewe on Friday 26th July and will play again at Walsall on Wednesday 31st July. It is pretty safe to say that none of the players who appeared at Newport will be playing at Walsall.
