Rovers squandered a two-goal lead to collect their 21st draw of the season in a game of two halves at the Deva Stadium this afternoon.
Goals from Ryan Williams and Junior Agogo gave the Pirates a two-goal cushion in the opening 30 minutes against Chester City, before a Stuart Drummond double after the break ensured the points were shared.
Rovers started the game brightly, and good work down the right side saw an Aaron Lescott ball find Walker in the opening few minutes, only for the striker to send a looping header wide of the target.
Drummond saw a first-time shot from a Robbie Foy cross well saved down to his left by a diving Ryan Clarke, and then Paul Carden was unable to find the target from the rebound.
Ryan Lowe stepped inside John Anderson before curling an effort in on goal that Clarke was once again more than equal to, before a Steve Elliott free-kick at the other end failed to trouble Chester goalkeeper Chris Mackenzie as it drilled into a four-man defensive wall.
Anderson flicked a Williams corner on at the near post before Christian Edwards prodded an effort over the crossbar, before just two minutes later Rovers edged themselves ahead thanks to a well taken Williams strike.
The goal came after a shot from Agogo was deflected into the path of the former Hull City winger, and the finish from 12 yards out was calm and composed as the home goalkeeper was left stranded on the floor.
Lowe sent a free-kick the wrong side of the target as Chester looked to hit back with an immediate response, but just seven minutes after scoring their first goal of the game, Rovers increased their lead to two.
Williams was involved again as he made great progress down the left side, and his cross into the danger area was headed downwards and into the back of the net by an unmarked Agogo.
Walker was involved in defensive duties as he blocked a Lowe shot on the edge of his own penalty area, before Savage fired over for Rovers after good play from Agogo.
Chester had one more chance to get on the scoresheet before the end of the first half, but a 35-yard free-kick from Lowe was well wide of Clarke's goal.
The second half started brightly for the home side, and there were a number of chances in the opening exchanges at both ends of the pitch.
Clarke made a good save to prevent Drummond from scoring as a low shot looked destined to find the bottom corner of the goal, and then for Rovers, Walker headed wide of the goal from a Lescott ball into the box.
Chester got themselves on the scoresheet for the first time on the hour-mark after a good break from midfield that had the Rovers defence at sixes and sevens.
Ben Davies kept possession of the ball well wide on the left side, before sliding a pass into the path of Drummond, and from 15 yards out the Chester man drilled an unstoppable effort into the top right corner of the goal.
Walker came close to making it 3-1 to Rovers only for his tap over the line from an Anderson flick to be disallowed for offside, and then almost immediately at the other end Chester grabbed the goal that put them back on level terms with Drummond's second of the game.
The goal came after a ball into the box was deflected by substitute Joe O'Neill into the path of Drummond, and the resulting smash home left Clarke with absolutely no chance to save.
It needed a good interception from James Hunt as Drummond chased down on goal in search of his hat-trick, and then the same player was unlucky moments later as his shot from a Foy flick was blocked by a Rovers defender.
O'Neill went inches wide of the target as he drove towards goal from the edge of the area, before at the other end Walker saw an attempt at goal go six yards wide of the left post.
Rovers pressed on towards the end of the match with Williams delivering a cross into the box that was hacked clear from the goalmouth, and then a free-kick was tapped to Elliott only for the defender's powerful shot to be blocked by an encroaching defender.
Agogo tried an audacious effort from 40 yards out in stoppage time that Mackenzie did well to get across and save, but despite a few late attacks from the visitors as the clock ran down, the game finished all-square.
It was an entertaining game for the entire 90 minutes, but having established a 2-0 lead and seemingly been cruising towards only their second league double of the season, Rovers will be thoroughly disappointed to have let their advantage slip in such infuriating fashion.
