Mattie's birthday present for me. A brilliant surprise. I thought he was taking me to some sort of exhibition thing in Santa Cruz but we ended up at the stadium. Lovely weather and we laughed a lot. We even tried some sunflower seed. They were not very nice, troublesome to eat and - overall - largely pointless. But the locals love them. The game itself was pretty good too although just being there with Mattie was the buzz. Wonderful. Footnote: by the time we got back to Mattie's my throat was hurting, my nose blocking and I'd started coughing. The following day (my birthday) I felt absolutely dreadful. There followed one of the nastiest worstest horriblest illnesses I've ever had that laid me up for the entire remainder of our stay in Tenerife (over a week). I didn't properly recover for nearly 6 weeks. It had to have been those sunflower seeds (ha ha).
