Match no. 720. The last day of the League season. West Ham were top of the Second Division, with promotion secured, and needing to win to be confirmed as Champions. Notts County had already confirmed their place in the play-offs but could go no higher than fourth. Unfortunately, Hammers turned in a very poor display to lose 2-1. At the final whistle there was a ridiculous pitch invasion as Hammers fans celebrated winning the Championship. Unfortunately, we hadn''t. Oldham had come from 2-0 down to beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 and clinch the title. In the event, Notts County secured promotion by winning the play-offs, beating Brighton 3-1 in the final at Wembley.
