Entertaining yet frustrating game. Tranmere deservedly took a two goal lead into half time, Morris with a low drive from 20yards and Lewis from an angled shot just inside the box. Bolton had two shots on target, a good free kick saved from going in the top corner and a shot straight down the middle to the keeper. Their where two cynical tackles one for each side, Lewis rightly saw yellow but the 17 for Bolton got away with a talking too after chopping down a tranmere player from behind with the ball well gone unbelievable. The first five minutes of the second half saw Bolton threaten but looking at the football perspective Tranmere gave as good as they got unfortunately after ten minutes they decided to start timewasting sub Lomax was rightly booked and Dacres-Cogley amazingly avoided a similar fate after delaying numerous throw ins. Another injustice followed against the hosts, the Bolton defence had the ball but before playing it forward the Bolton no9 eyed up Centre back Simeu and staring him in the face ran full pelt into him as the ball headed towards the pair yet he never so muched as glanced towards it, Simeu reacted by throwing him to the floor but the ref chose only to penalised the second offence and not the first. The resultant free kick was only half cleared and when it was played back in the Bolton player swivelled and finished well. Both sides created chances Hemmings firing at the keeper from a tight angle when a cutback looked likely to finish the game. As 4 minutes added time went up the visitors equalised with a good shot from the edge of the box beating the fully stretched keeper Hewelt. Tranmere had defended superbly and it felt like if they had concentrated on the football instead of the timewasting 3-0 would have been a more likely result. As it was it went to penalties for the extra point with Hewelt the hero for the second time in a shoot out this season after the Accrington Carling cup game. This time it would end 5-4 with a solitary save. The game also saw Bolton manager getting in the 4th officials ear on a regular basis trying his powers of persuasion no doubt to influence decisions.
