Game number 17. Arrived in Barnsley quite early for this one. We parked up in the multi storey car park above the market. It is free to use this on a Saturday and is only a 10 minute walk from the ground. We were going to have a walk through the city centre but thought instead we would walk straight up to the Metrodome for some lunch. This place had been recommeded on a few football fan sites. It is a leisure centre and the restaurant upstairs does smell highly of chlorine. There was no real menu at hand but for luch you could choose from a number of things from the hot plate. We both had homemade steak pie with chips and mushy peas -not bad for £4 each. Today my team Forest were playing away at local rivals Derby and so i was keeping in touch with the score via 5 live. After our lunch we had a walk down to the ground which was only 2 mins away. We took our photos and did a lap of the ground and by which time we were still an hour from kick off. We bought our tickets from the turnstile and had a wander inside the ground. We took some photos of the pitch and stands although we were advised by the female steward that we should not do this. As we still had loads of time Alec wanted another pint. GOAL - Derby 0-1 Forest (Earnshaw 78). The match was ok. Swansea arrived sitting 2nd in the table so as my team were in the chasing pack it meant that i was actually quite keen for Barnsley to win. Barnsley were by far the best team and led 1-0 at the break. After missing quite a few chances Barnsley inevitably got punished with what looked a dubious penalty. From where we were which to be fair was almost in Barnsley town centre - we were right in the corner - it looked like he dived. Match ended 1-1. A poor showing from the home support as their cheapest match of the season at £16 only attracted 10000 fans. Still, we had a good day. Today was my birthday treat. Cheers Alec.
