Abandoned ht fog. With no Tranmere game and the few local fixtures having pitch inspections drew up a short list. With the weather generally being bad i needed the extra kick to get me on the road at 6am for the ''safer options'' in the Conference South. Eastbourne got the nod over Worthing purely on the fact i had not seen the away team play either but still faced a ten hour round trip! From the outset the fog was widespread and i didn''t glimpse the sun until a five minute break around Wycombe and then it cleared as i approached the end of the M23. Due to the distance travelled i decided to visit Worthing as well a 40 minute round trip diversion being let in to the ground for pictures to go with the blue skies however as i passed Brighton''s stadium heading East the skis darkened and appeared gloomy. On arrival i thought my concerns unwarranted but as kick off approached the houses outside the stadium began to disappear in a swirl of fog. Taunton got off to the best start taking a 4th minute lead from a tight angle as the keeper rushed out and they increased their lead when another player was found on the opposite side with the freedom of the park his strong shot was parried back to him by the keeper and he then squared the ball for a colleague to slot home from 6 yards. The hosts pulled one back when a shot was dummied in close proximity to the keeper with the ball somehow going through the latter''s legs. Eastbourne pressed hard for an equaliser as half time approached but despite a number of corners went into the break behind. Halftime seemed longer than usual, the fog had gotten worse but i could see all the corner flags after an inspection it was announed the ref was giving it another 10 minute ''pause'' to see if the fog lifted and then a furthur 10 minutes after that before pulling the plug. To be fair by this stage it probably was the right call. None the less having had to pay the extra £5 matchday admission on top of around £130 in petrol and face another 5+ hours travel certainly regret not staying in the Worthing sun shine as they came from behind to win 3-1.
