With a mixture of buses and trains needed to get to the game, an early start was needed, but I was excited for this game as I thought we had a very good chance of winning the game. Arriving reasonably early, I thought I''d head for a pub, a local Colchester fan pointing me in the direction of one but nobody was in there, so I decided to trek off to the stadium taking in the town on the way. Unfortunately, there was no town, just a main road and i still managed to go adventuring into god-knows-where, I spotted the stadium from afar but with no obvious pathway to the ground, I went cross country around a rugby club, through a dyke, over some overgrowth until I made to a road leading to the stadium. The ground looked smart, if a bit plain from the outside. The concourses were adequate with fans mixing to watch the early k/o Arsenal-Chelsea game in the away section, as the home one didnt have them apparently. Inside, the layout was quite impressive, if extremely generous, with large amounts of empty seats and a completely empty stand. Game was another away nightmare, with us shipping 4 goals, although the final result was probably a bit unfair on us, but a late goal restored some pride. Bit of a quiet one, core of about 50 Colchester fans kept things going and we sporadically go involved, but there wasnt a lot to cheer for, except Sam Sodje''s equaliser. Getting away was easy enough, got one of the many shuttle buses back into the town and then toured the actual town, which was actually a pleasant walk, recommend it to any visiting fans.
