Match no. 1436. Last day of the regular League One season with Stevenage guaranteed 9th place and Cheltenham needing to win to have any chance of avoiding relegation. In the event they made a really good fight of it, roared on by 1200+ away fans. Borough took the lead with a penalty on the stroke of half-time but the visitors equalised on 53 minutes. The rest of the game was end to end and could have gone either way. A win for Cheltenham would have seen them stay up as Burton lost but it was Stevenage who scored the winner in the last minute. I have now seen Cheltenham play 9 times and they have managed just one draw and 8 defeats with a goal aggregate of 5-24! Fifty years ago today - Match no. 323 - West Ham 2-2 Liverpool. By coincidence they played each other again today with the same result, a 2-2 draw.
