YET ANOTHER DRAW FOR ROVERS KIDDERMINSTER HARS Sturrock 29 1-1 BRISTOL ROVERS Agogo 53 ATTENDANCE: 2,082 KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS: John Danby, Johnny Mullins (Lee Jenkins 67), Simon Weaver, Mark Jackson, Wayne Hatswell, Bertrand Cozic, Tom Bennett, Dean Keates, John McGrath, Chris Beardsley, Blair Sturrock Unused Substitutes: Simon Russell, Daniel Lewis, Billy Jones, Ian Foster BRISTOL ROVERS: Kevin Miller, Aaron Lescott, Steve Elliott, Christian Edwards, John Anderson (Craig Disley 34), Robbie Ryan, Craig Hinton, James Hunt, Ryan Williams, Richard Walker (Lewis Haldane 87), Junior Agogo Unused Substitutes: Paul Trollope, Ricky Shakes, Jamie Forrester REFEREE: Alan Kaye Rovers served up their 16th stalemate of the season this evening, as struggling Kidderminster Harriers held Ian Atkins' side to a 1-1 draw at the Aggborough Stadium. Blair Sturrock opened the scoring for the home side in the first half, before Junior Agogo popped up to level things after the break. Rovers began the match very poorly and negatively, and it was difficult at times to work out which team was scrapping for points in the Football League drop zone. Sturrock forced Kevin Miller into making a good save early on, before Agogo couldn't quite get enough on a deflected James Hunt shot as he prodded wide at the far post. John McGrath chested down a Sturrock cross inside the Rovers penalty area before turning and hooking a shot straight at Miller, and then Robbie Ryan surged forward for the visitors before seeing a shot from distance easily blocked. Dean Keates attempted to curl one in from a free-kick just outside of the penalty area, but the Rovers defensive wall did its job, and then Miller was called into action to make a great save from Bertrand Cozic, as the recalled goalkeeper got down quickly to make a superb stop at his near post. Miller was frustrating Kidderminster again as Johnny Mullins saw his header from a corner brilliantly parried away by the shot-stopper, but there was little he could do moments later, as the home side cut the Rovers defence apart to open the scoring. The goal came after a delightful pass through the middle of the park unlocked the Rovers defence, with not one of Rovers' three central defenders able to do anything as Sturrock stole in unmarked, before exquisitely clipping the ball over the advancing Miller. Shortly after going a goal down, almost identically like a week previously at home to Southend United, a change in tactics and formation saw Rovers go from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2, with a frustrated John Anderson being replaced by Craig Disley. The switch in personnel made little impact during the latter stages of the first half, as Kidderminster looked the more likely of the two sides to score the next goal of the game. Steve Elliott blocked an effort from Christopher Beardsley, and then a powerful drive from Keates dipped just a couple of inches over the Rovers crossbar, much to the relief of a watching Miller. Beardsley headed wide from a Kidderminster corner, before Rovers enjoyed a rare break going forward as a long clearance from Miller found Ryan Williams, whose cross into the path of Agogo was fired over the crossbar by the onrushing front man. Kidderminster goalkeeper John Danby made a useful stop at the feet of Richard Walker as Rovers enjoyed three or four minutes of pressure, before right at the end of the first half, Danby easily collected a looping header from Hunt. The second half was a better 45 minutes of football for Rovers, and it started very brightly indeed as a run from Agogo saw a powerful drive from a tight angle well saved by Danby, before the loose ball was hacked away for a corner by a defender. The visitors were back on level terms eight minutes into the second period, as Agogo found himself in the right place at the right time to hammer home the equaliser. The goal came after a long ball forward from Elliott was glanced on by Walker, and after taking a couple of neat touches, Agogo rammed the ball home into the back of the net with the ferocity of the shot taking it right through the legs of the goalkeeper. Walker came inches away from making it 2-1 within a couple of minutes as he poked a shot wide after some excellent build-up play from Williams, and then only a great block inside the box denied Agogo as he shaped to shoot from around 14 yards. Kidderminster came forward with a Beardsley attempt that only managed to find the side netting, before Rovers again pressed back their hosts as a pass from Disley to Agogo saw the striker rattle a 20-yard effort against the upright. Agogo was guilty of wasting possession a few minutes later when he shot from a narrow angle rather than looking to cross the ball towards an unmarked Walker, and then at the other end as the game drew to a close, Kidderminster enjoyed a couple of moments of pressure themselves, as Sturrock tested Miller with a fairly routine shot, and Keates fired another free-kick straight at the Rovers wall. Lewis Haldane was thrown into the action in the final few minutes as Rovers looked to snatch a late winner, and the young striker should have been given a penalty after a pass from Disley saw him fool his marker, before having his standing leg taken away from him by a clumsy Kidderminster defender. Over the course of the 90 minutes a defeat for either side would have probably been a bit harsh, but the draw doesn't really do either team any good. Already faint hopes of Rovers making a late play-off charge now become even fainter, and Kidderminster's battle to stay in the Football League becomes a little more unlikely.
