Match no. 269. England were outplayed by the superb West Germany team that went onto win Euro 72. Uli Hoeness scored on 27 minutes and Germany were in control until Francis Lee''s equaliser 12 minutes from time gave England brief hope. But late goals from Gunther Netzer (pen) and Gerd Muller sealed a deserved 3-1 win, which became the aggregate score after the second leg in Berlin ended 0-0.
