It was an awesome effort from Paul Trollope's side, who roared on by a magnificent following from almost 1,700 Gasheads, looked dead and buried with just two minutes remaining - only to score two quick fire goals at the death to snatch a dramatic three points. The game got off to a dreadful start for Rovers, with stand-in captain Craig Hinton taken off injured after just one minute following a head injury that appeared to leave him concussed. John Anderson was brought on from the bench to line-up alongside Christian Edwards, in what were to be the first moments of a very memorable afternoon for the big Scotsman. Cheltenham were out to press Rovers early on, and after beating Edwards for pace, Kayode Odejayi could only manage a scuffed effort into the arms of Scott Shearer. On-loan Bristol City front man Stephen Gillespie was next to unleash an effort on goal, but Shearer was barely troubled by the tame shot. Shane Higgs saved brilliantly from a Richard Walker near post header from Rovers' first attack of the game, and then shortly after the striker won a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area that led to his side's opening goal of the game. Jamie Forrester stepped up to take the set-piece, and he brilliantly curlied an unstoppable effort into the top corner of the Cheltenham goal to make it 1-0. Ali Gibb had a glorious chance to double the advantage as he headed straight at Higgs from a Walker cross moments later, before Forrester played in Lewis Haldane whose powerful first-time shot went narrowly wide. Higgs got down well to his right to save from the lively Haldane five minutes later, and then some desperate defending from Cheltenham saw a goalwards effort from Craig Disley deflected behind for a corner. Shearer kept Rovers in the game as he saved brilliantly with his legs to deny a clean through Odejayi, and then the final opportunity of the first half fell to Rovers, with Haldane shooting high and wide after skipping past two Cheltenham defenders. The second half again saw Haldane making chances for himself out of very little, and a terrific 30-yard volley just after the restart was deflected past the post for a corner. Forrester was the next to ask questions of the home defence, as he beat three defenders before getting the ball stuck under his feet in the six-yard box just as he was about to pull the trigger. Haldane fired over again, and then Odejayi saw claims for a penalty waved away by the referee after Edwards appeared to have fouled the striker in the box. Gillespie aimed a looping header well over Shearer's crossbar, and then with just 20 minutes of the game left, the same player brought his side level. A ball into the box was well knocked down into Gillespie's path by Odejayi, with the Ashton Gate forward enjoying a rare moment of joy in front of goal as he buried his effort past Shearer from 12 yards. Junior Agogo was introduced in place of Haldane as Rovers looked to regain the initiative, and almost immediately a pass from the former Barnet man played in fellow substitute Sammy Igoe, whose effort on goal was weak and wide. Igoe then produced a brilliant 40-yard pass to unlock the Cheltenham defence in an instant, with a rasping Agogo volley blocked by some fantastic defending from Gavin Caines. Brian Wilson somehow managed to fire over the bar from five yards out after a poor clearance from Shearer left his goal exposed, but then with just two minutes of the regular 90 remaining Cheltenham thought they'd won it. A cross from JJ Melligan was met by Odejayi, and although Shearer did his best to stop the ball crossing the line, the referee's assistant raised his flag to signal a goal and hand the home side a 2-1 lead. But Rovers never give up under Paul Trollope, and within second of falling behind for the first time all afternoon they were back on level terms again. Agogo was played in down the left, and his perfect cross into the path of Disley was brilliantly headed into the corner of the goal by the former Mansfield Town midfielder. Then, as the match was surely playing out into an entertaining 2-2 draw, the most unlikeliest of winners popped up to steer the ball home from a corner, with Anderson - who lost out in his bid to win a place in the starting 11 at the start of the day - the right man in the right place to win it for Rovers. Cheltenham were dumbstruck and couldn't believe what had happened to them. Odejayi had one final weak attempt on Shearer's goal, but it was to be Rovers' day, and after six minutes of added time, the vast following of support from Bristol burst into scenes of wild celebration after yet another eventful Saturday afternoon watching their team. Over the course of the game Rovers were the better team, and were worthy of the three points against their possible play-off rivals. But with just 90 seconds left on the clock and 2-1 down, there would have been very few travelling supporters expecting to witness what infolded in front of their very eyes in the closing stages.
