We missed the kick-off as the coach driver got lost and we were half way to Southend before he realised his mistake. We enter the ground to see table toppers West Ham lining up a penalty. Teenage keeper Perry Suckling saves it and we race into a 2 goal lead to threaten to continue our unlikely early season form. Reality sets in and West Ham reply with 5 goals including a Swindlehurst hat-trick and 2 from Steve Whitton who had left Cov in the summer.
