Match no. 712. One of the top West Ham games on my all-time list, a quite outstanding performance to overcome a strong Everton team, with a brilliant personal display by Stuart Slater, who scored the winning goal and ran Everton ragged. Such a shame that, seemingly destined to be an all-time West Ham great, he made an ill-advised move to Celtic in 1992 and his career quickly petered out. Hammers went on to play Nottingham Forest in the semi-final at Villa Park and the notorious red card issued to Tony Gale by referee Hackett, one of the worst decisions ever seen anywhere. The incident occured with the score at 0-0 but, of course, we lost 4-0 in the end and were robbed of the chance to play Spurs in the Final.
