GROUND HISTORY adapted from "The Ultimate Directory of English & Scottish Football League Grounds"

Small Heath Alliance FC moved to Muntz Street, south east of the city centre, from Ladypool Road in 1877. The facilities initially only consisted of a small wooden stand on the south side of the pitch but subsequent improvements included the addition of concrete terracing to the west of this stand, embankments on the other three sides and the installation of an ornate grandstand at the west end. This grandstand was purchased from Aston Villa and removed from their Wellington Road ground after they vacated it in 1897. The club, by now called Birmingham FC, moved to St Andrew’s mid-way through the 1905/6 season and the site was eventually used for Swanage Road and housing.
