Known as the Old Town Ditch Field, Swansea Town moved here in 1912 and built a 1,100 seat main stand on the south side in 1913. In the 1920s a stand was built in the south west corner, the terracing enlarged on the north side and a two-tier 2,120 seat stand constructed at the west end.

Further alterations were carried out in 1959 when a cover was installed on the north side and the record attendance of 32,796 was set at the FA Cup 4th Round tie v. Arsenal (0-1) on February 17th, 1968. Following the club’s elevation to Division One in 1981, a two-tier 1,841 seat stand was squeezed in at the east end and in the 1990s, for safety reasons, the upper tier was removed from the stand at the west end. At the start of the 2004/5 season the capacity was 11,477 with 3,414 seats and the pitch size was 112 x 74 yards.
